Experience a Carnival of Flavors at Mumbai’s Newest Dining Delight

Picture the lively bustle of laughter, the rhythmic pulse of music, and a kaleidoscope of colorful lights and intricate decor. Imagine the tantalizing aromas of local delicacies and the allure of unforgettable performances—all wrapped in a comforting dose of nostalgia. This is the essence of a carnival, a place where cherished memories and new adventures intertwine. And now, Mumbaikars, you can relive this magic right in the heart of Juhu.

Carnival By Tresind, an acclaimed restaurant from Dubai, brings its extraordinary culinary flair to Mumbai. Known for its inventive take on modern Indian cuisine, Carnival By Tresind promises to captivate your palate with a creative and theatrical dining experience. Our team at Masala! had the pleasure of exploring their newest location, and we were thoroughly impressed.

The Carnival Experience

Upon entering Carnival By Tresind, the vibrant, carnival-themed decor immediately dazzled us. The lively music set a festive mood, and the neon-lit masks worn by the bartenders added a whimsical touch. Bar Manager Rahul Kamath welcomed us with a cocktail menu that promised a sensory adventure.

We started with the “Tikitiki”, a tropical cocktail that transported us to a sunny Caribbean beach. This refreshing blend of plantation white rum, house-made cacao liqueur, pineapple, and hibiscus cordial was a citrusy delight. Next, we enjoyed the ‘Java Jamboree’, a tribute to British carnivals. This smooth concoction of Bourbon Whiskey, espresso, and carnival coffee liqueur, topped with coconut and miso foam, perfectly balanced the bitterness of espresso with sweet coconut notes.

Eagerly anticipating the main course, we moved to a private dining area where Chef Sarfaraz Ahmed greeted us. His gentle demeanor and the quirky art on the walls set the stage for an exceptional meal.

We began with the inventive Chaat Sundae, a unique fusion of yogurt ice cream, coriander, and tamarind granita that impressed us with its bold flavors. The Tandoori Portobello Steak, featuring succulent mushrooms and a live-made molcajete chimichurri chutney, was another standout.

The Duck Croquette, crumbed and fried to perfection with a tangy barbecue sauce, made for a delightful accompaniment to our cocktails. For vegetarians, the Jackfruit Cutlet was a must-try—crispy, light, and irresistibly delicious.

The showstopper of the evening was the Recado Negro, a sophisticated take on Maharashtrian Kaala Mutton. Tender mutton chunks in a spicy jalapeno thecha sauce were nothing short of spectacular. This dish is a must-try for anyone visiting Carnival By Tresind.

Our culinary journey continued with a creative twist on Vada Pav—a classic Mumbai snack reimagined with furikake lobster bonda and lehsuni yuzu kosho. While the previous mutton dish had set a high bar, this unique vada pav held its own.

Chef Ahmad also treated us to the Champaran Style Carnitas, featuring juicy braised pork shoulder with pickled onions and a variety of sauces. We enjoyed assembling our own portions, savoring each bite. The Mushroom Pot Rice with Truffle Tadka and Ram Babu Paratha—served with banana chutney—were equally memorable.

To cap off our experience, Mayank, a mentalist, performed at our table, adding a touch of carnival magic.

Desserts were the perfect finale: the Go Bananas—an upside-down banana mawa cake paired with burnt chocolate ice cream—and the Chocolate Fondant, with a gooey center, hazelnut kalakand, and vanilla ice cream, concluded our meal on a sweet note.

Carnival By Tresind in Mumbai is more than a dining experience; it’s a celebration of flavors and memories. Whether you’re a food enthusiast or simply seeking a unique outing, this new hotspot is a must-visit.

The Hakkasan Experience

From the moment we walked into Hakkasan, the subtle fragrance of jasmine set the tone for an extraordinary meal. Curated by Head Chef Laxman Gaire, the menu features a variety of Cantonese dishes infused with floral and herbal notes, turning each bite into a sensory journey.

We started with the Seafood Dumpling in Saffron Soup. The delicate pink dumplings, filled with prawn and crab, were served in a fragrant saffron broth that added a depth of flavor, enhancing the overall dish.

Next up was the Spicy Asian Prawn, where hibiscus took center stage. The tiger prawns, tossed in a blend of homemade chili sauce and ginger, were balanced by a hint of hibiscus, offering a perfect contrast of flavors.

The Jasmine Rice in Fragrant Chilli Fried Rice was another standout. Infused with hibiscus-chili oil, this dish was complemented by crisp water chestnuts, edamame, and asparagus, creating a symphony of textures and flavors.

The Stir-Fry Lobster in Singapore Chilli Sauce featured succulent lobster in a spicy gravy, complemented by crisp yam bean and spring onion. Water chestnuts added a delightful crunch to the tender lobster.

For vegetarians, the Exotic Vegetables in Emperor Sauce was a treat. Lotus root, water chestnut, and celery were bathed in a pineapple-infused sauce with red chilies, offering an exotic and aromatic flavor profile.

The Stir-Fry Jackfruit with Szechuan Peppercorn provided a unique mix of tender jackfruit and lotus root in a sweet chili sauce. Infused with Szechuan peppercorn and honey, this dish delivered a captivating sweet and spicy taste.

The floral theme also extended to the cocktail menu, curated by Bar Manager Merwyn Alphonso. The Hibiscus cocktail paired the flower with Ballantine’s Bourbon Finish whisky, offering a smoky yet floral experience. Meanwhile, the Heritage Old-Fashioned combined Ballantine’s Bourbon Finest whisky with jasmine liqueur, orange bitters, and subtle citrus notes.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s son, Miles, has been diagnosed with type-1 diabetes, a condition they revealed after a recent viral photo from the Olympics 2024. Here’s everything you need to know about this autoimmune disease.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend recently supported Team USA at the Paris Olympics 2024, where Chrissy, along with her children Luna and Miles, shared a heartfelt photo holding signs for gymnast Simone Biles. However, fans noticed a type-1 diabetes monitor on Miles’s arm, sparking widespread support for the family. Chrissy later revealed that Miles had been diagnosed with this autoimmune disease, leading to an outpouring of kindness and encouragement.

In a touching Instagram post, Chrissy expressed her gratitude, saying, “A lot of you noticed something special about the photo I posted—a type-1 diabetes monitor on Miles. We have only known about his condition for a couple of weeks, discovered while he was in the hospital for an unrelated infection.” She explained that they were still learning to manage his new diagnosis and had started insulin treatment.

What is Type-1 Diabetes?

Type-1 diabetes is a chronic condition where the pancreas produces little to no insulin, a hormone crucial for regulating blood sugar. Unlike type-2 diabetes, where insulin production decreases over time or cells become resistant, type-1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the body mistakenly attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

Although type-1 diabetes can develop at any age, it commonly begins in childhood or young adulthood, accounting for nearly 10% of all diabetes cases. Without adequate insulin, blood sugar levels can become dangerously high, potentially leading to serious health complications.

To manage type-1 diabetes, individuals must regularly monitor their blood sugar levels using devices like flash monitors and administer insulin doses as needed. A balanced lifestyle and careful management are essential for controlling blood sugar and maintaining overall health.

Nada Hafez, the Egyptian fencer competing in the Paris Olympics 2024, is making headlines by setting a remarkable fitness goal while in her seventh month of pregnancy. Her participation has sparked discussion about exercising during pregnancy. Experts affirm that low-impact exercise, when done without complications, is generally safe during the third trimester.

Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has made headlines for competing in the Paris Olympics 2024 while seven months pregnant, showcasing her remarkable determination and fitness. Her participation has sparked a conversation about the safety of exercising during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Traditionally, pregnant women are advised to prioritize rest to avoid complications. However, experts suggest that low-impact exercise can be safe and beneficial, provided there are no complications. Research indicates that active women may experience fewer issues during labor.

Dr. Sonal Kumta, a senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at Fortis Hospital in Mumbai, notes that while an athlete like Hafez may have different thresholds, general recommendations include walking, low-impact yoga, Pilates, deep breathing, back strengthening, and pelvic floor exercises. She advises, “Stay active throughout your pregnancy, adjust exercise intensity to your stamina, and consult your obstetrician if you encounter any issues.”

The latest meta-analysis supports that vigorous exercise during the third trimester is generally safe for most healthy pregnancies. However, Dr. Kumta emphasizes that women with heart-lung issues, kidney problems, or other medical conditions should consult their doctors before starting an exercise routine. Those at risk of pre-term delivery or with complications like low-lying placenta or previous cesarean deliveries should also seek medical advice.

For those in their third trimester, Dr. Kumta recommends walking for 35 to 40 minutes daily and engaging in low-impact activities like yoga and Pilates. She highlights the importance of pelvic floor exercises to support childbirth and prevent post-delivery complications. After 37 weeks, she suggests additional exercises such as squatting and sitting on the floor.

Dr. Kumta also warns that pregnant women should stop exercising immediately if they experience breathing difficulties, chest pain, dizziness, or abnormal vaginal symptoms.

Choosing a safe blush or any makeup product is crucial in today’s market flooded with cosmetics. How do you ensure the products you use are safe? Here’s a guide to ingredients you should avoid to protect your skin from damage, wrinkles, spots, and toxins:

  1. Phthalates
Found in perfumes, hair sprays, cleansers, nail polishes, and lotions, phthalates can act as carcinogens and hormone disruptors. Opt for products labeled as phthalate-free.
  2. Triclosan
While banned in soaps by the FDA, triclosan can still be found in some toothpaste, face washes, and deodorants. It’s known to be an irritant and hormone disruptor, so it’s best to avoid it.
  3. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
Common in face washes, shampoos, and soaps, SLES can irritate the skin and disrupt the endocrine system, while SLS may trigger allergic reactions.
  4. Parabens
Despite their widespread use in products like deodorants, shower gels, and body creams, parabens such as Propylparaben and Isobutylparaben are linked to cancer risks. Choose “paraben-free” alternatives for safer options.
  5. Diethanolamine (DEA) and Triethanolamine (TEA)
Used as surfactants and pH adjusters, DEA has been banned in several countries due to its carcinogenic effects. Even if some products still contain these ingredients to enhance texture or foam, it’s wise to avoid them.

Struggling to Sleep in Scorching Weather? Try These 8 Simple Tips for Better Slumber

Finding it hard to get a good night’s sleep in the sweltering heat? Here are 8 easy tips to improve your sleep quality this summer—no need to crank up the AC!

Struggling to Sleep in Scorching Weather? Try These 8 Simple Tips for a Better Night’s Rest

Summer days may be filled with sunshine and fun, but summer nights can bring uncomfortable heat that makes it hard to sleep. While running the air conditioner all night is a quick fix, there are other cost-effective ways to stay cool and get a good night’s rest. Here are 8 simple tips to help you sleep better during the hot summer months:

1. Choose Breathable Bed Sheets

Opt for bed sheets made of breathable materials like linen or silk to keep your bed cool. These fabrics help regulate temperature and keep you comfortable during hot nights. Pair them with a light blanket to avoid overheating.

2. Avoid Cold Showers Before Bed

While a cold shower might seem refreshing, it can actually make it harder for your body to release heat. Instead, take a lukewarm shower to help your body cool down and prepare for sleep.

3. Darken Your Room

Summer’s extended daylight can disrupt your sleep cycle. Use blackout curtains or shades to darken your room and create a sleep-friendly environment. Sleep masks can also help block out unwanted light.

4. Ventilate at the Right Times

To keep your room cool, open your windows early in the morning and after sunset. Keeping them closed during the hottest part of the day prevents warm air from entering and helps maintain a cooler indoor temperature.

5. Create Cool Spots on Your Bed

Enhance your bed’s comfort by placing chilled hot water bottles or cooling mats. Store these items in the fridge for a few hours before use to create refreshing cool spots on your bed.

6. Eat a Protein-Filled Dinner

Heavy, greasy meals before bed can disrupt sleep. Opt for a light dinner with protein-rich foods like chicken salads or boiled eggs. Protein contains tryptophan, which can promote better sleep.

7. Hydrate Wisely

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, but limit your intake close to bedtime to avoid frequent trips to the bathroom. Avoid sugary drinks, which can affect sleep quality.

8. Avoid Late-Night Workouts

Exercise is great for sleep, but try to finish your workout at least two hours before bedtime. Exercising too close to sleep can increase energy levels and make it harder to fall asleep.

Bonus Tip: Consider Magnesium Supplements

Magnesium helps relax muscles and supports a restful sleep. Taking a magnesium supplement after a stressful day can aid in calming your nervous system. Consult your doctor to choose the right supplement for you.

With these tips, you can improve your sleep quality and enjoy more restful nights, even in the height of summer heat.
