Marvel Celebrates as Deadpool & Wolverine Crosses $1 Billion Mark
Marvel is basking in success as Deadpool & Wolverine reaches the $1 billion milestone, the first film to do so since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The movie is also making waves at the North American box office, where it has impressively outperformed Avengers: Age of Ultron to become the 6th highest-grossing MCU film in the US.
Released in 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced key characters like Vision, Wanda Maximoff, and Pietro Maximoff. Directed by Joss Whedon, it featured Ultron as the primary antagonist, earning acclaim as one of the best villains in the MCU.
With Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have officially joined the MCU. The film also welcomes Channing Tatum as Gambit and Jennifer Garner as Elektra. According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, the movie earned a remarkable $53.8 million in its third weekend, marking the 12th highest third-weekend total ever.
Despite a 44.4% drop from the previous weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine has accumulated $493.9 million at the North American box office, surpassing both Avengers: Age of Ultron’s $459 million and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’s $487.6 million. It has become the 22nd highest-grossing film ever in the US and the 6th highest-grossing MCU film domestically.
Deadpool & Wolverine is projected to surpass $500 million tonight, with potential to reach $630 million to $670 million domestically. Globally, it has earned $1.03 billion, trailing behind Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s $1.4 billion.
